Decision of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) to send teams to Rize and Artvin before flood and landslide disaster as a precaution has prevented possible loss of life.
Shortly after the announcement of the Meteorology Department about flood risk in Rize and Artvin provinces, AFAD quickly sent teams to the area and prevented a bigger disaster by quickly initiating search and rescue activities.
Wounds caused due to flood and landslides in Rize and Artvin are healed. It has been seen that measures taken before disasters prevent possible loss of life.
Right after the announcement of the Meteorology Department dated July 13, 2 teams and 2 vehicles from Samsun AFAD provincial directorate were sent to Trabzon and 2 teams and 2 vehicles from Erzurum AFAD provincial directorate were sent to Rize.
After the warning of the Meteorology Department dated July 21, AFAD sent 119 personnel and 43 teams from 14 provincial directorates to Rize and Artvin.
303 People Safely Evacuated Due to Quick Response of AFAD
AFAD teams who were readily waiting in the area rescued total of 103 people, 35 of them from 7 spots in Büyükköy village of Çayeli district, 20 people from 4 spots in Güneysu district, 3 people from Muradiye, 30 people from Karayemiş and 15 from Ambarlık, on the same day.
Teams who were readily waiting in the area after the Meteorology Department's warning evacuated 200 people from Arhavi on July 22. AFAD teams safely transported a total of 303 people from Rize and Arhavi to safe spots.
The incident revealed that quick response prevents loss of life during disasters.
