There was a flood and landslide in the area due to excessive precipitation in the Arhavi district of Artvin province that started on 21.07.2021. Due to rainfall, the Arhavi River flooded and affected district center and village roads.
One injured due to flood and treated by the health teams. 137 search and rescue personnel 48 of them being divers are working in an effort to reach one missing person.
1.392 personnel and 440 vehicles from AFAD, JAK, Police, Gendarme, Red Crescent and STK teams are working in the area while 120 AFAD Volunteers were attending search and rescue efforts. Moreover, 438 personnel and 170 vehicles from Kars, Ardahan, Gümüşhane, Sivas, Elazığ, Amasya and Erzincan local administrations, Rize, Hemşin, İkizdere, Derepazarı, Pazar, Trabzon, Erzurum, Ardahan, Ağrı, Van, Giresun, Samsun, Sivas, Kars municipalities and State Water Works are sent to the area.
AFAD sent 5.000.000 liras as an urgent aid to the area.
15 health personnel and 5 vehicles from 112 Health and UMKE rescue teams are actively attending the search and rescue activities. 5 patients who applied to Arhavi State Hospital were treated and released.
6 people in Arhavi and 9 who were trapped in the Murgul district were safely transferred to secured areas. Moreover, approximately 466 people were evacuated and sent to safe areas.
4 from Rize Fındıklı district are evacuated to safe districts.
Under the coordination of AFAD, shelters were provided for 19 families and 1 family is still staying in a student dormitory. 933 search and rescue personnel are staying in state dormitories.
45.926 snacks, 163.627 bottles of water and 2.500 lunch boxes were distributed in the area hit by the flood.
Starting from July 24, hot meals are served during lunch and dinner to 23.170 people.
13 drinking water tankers were installed in the area.
Mobile base stations were installed in an effort to support communication infrastructure.
It has been detected that 80 transformers were damaged and there was an energy shortage in 4.289 homes. 10 teams made up of 30 personnel are working in an effort to repair the transformers.
24 technicians and 14 work machines are working in order to open a closed road between Arhavi and Ortacalar.
Traffic flow at the highways in the area is controlled by Police Department and Gendarme teams.
According to the information received from the meteorology department on 22.07.2021, 183.1 kg of rain fell per square meter in Hopa district, 173.3 kg of rain fell per square meter in Arhavi, 116,2 kg of rain fell per square meter in Murgul, 79,6 kg of rain fell per square meter in Fındıklı, 64,9 kg of rain fell per square meter in Çamlıhemşin, and 64 kg of rain fell per square meter in Ardeşen Yeşiltepe.
