The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative for South Eastern Europe (DPPI SEE) organized an international workshop in Antalya between June 6 and 7 about local disaster risk reduction plans and disaster resilient cities. DPPI SEE General Secretary Vlatko Javonovski and AFAD’s Planning and Risk Reduction Department Chairman Abdülkadir Tezcan made the opening of the workshop. Participants shared their experiences about “local disaster risk reduction plans” and “making cities resilient”. Officials from UN agencies, DPPI SEE and 9 countries attended the workshop.
The workshop focused on local and urban risk reduction activities and improving disaster resilience. It was participated by related experts and officials of 9 member states and experts from the UN Disaster Risk Reduction Office. Two topics of the workshop were “local risk reduction plans” and “making disaster resilient cities”.
AFAD shared the details of IRAP
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Chairman M. Akif Alkan and AFAD Expert Ahmet Reha Soykan made presentations about the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP) of Türkiye during the workshop. They shared the details of the plan as well as related processes and methodology. Following the presentations, participant states discuss possible cooperation opportunities.
İRAP Guidelines will be translated into other languages
Translating IRAP guidelines to other languages was among the subjects discussed during the workshop. Translation of the guidelines will provide member states to benefit from Türkiye’s experience and knowledge.
