The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) organized a Flood Risk Early Warning Exercise as a part of the 2022 Disaster Exercise Year activities. The exercise took place on June 2 at the Vakfıkebir district of Trabzon province.
A total of 1,200 personnel from 25 disaster working groups, 11 Provincial Directorates of AFAD, accredited 36 NGOs, AFAD volunteers and local support groups participated in the exercise. Moreover, a total of 262 vehicles including helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and boats were used by the personnel.
Collecting and Disseminating Information System Used in the Exercise
The Collecting and Disseminating Information System (HAY) developed by ASELSAN was integrated into the State Water Works (DSİ) flood risk early warning system and used during the exercise. People who are under flood risk were warned by using e-AFAD, AFAD SMS and central announcement system in order to reduce hazard risk into minimum and efficient use of disaster response capacity.
Joint Working Culture and Mobility Ability Improves
Exercises reinforce coordination between working groups assigned by the Disaster Response Plan of Türkiye (TAMP) and raise public awareness about emergency assembly areas and temporary shelters.
Exercise organized as a part of “Today’s Exercise is the Preparedness for Tomorrow” slogan brought public, private and nongovernmental institutions together with volunteers and local people. It improved joint working culture and coordinated mobility ability.
