Like last year, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) offers an important support to TEKNOFEST aiming to raise Turkish youth’s ambition to produce and develop national technology. AFAD is executing “Technology for Humanity” competition aiming to bring innovations and technological developments that will have impact on human life. Technology for Humanity competition organized by AFAD that shares youth’s excitement is being distinguished for being the largest competition area in TEKNOFEST.

AFAD participates in the TEKNOFEST ISTANBUL Aerospace and Technology Festival which was organized for the second time this year. Giving support to festival preparations as the executive institution for competition, AFAD brings richness to TEKNOFEST 2019 with its open and closed booth areas. The festival will take place between September 17-22 and visitors can participate interactive activities and see shows at the AFAD booth. People visiting AFAD booths will also have the opportunity to learn more about disaster awareness while having fun.

Teenagers Take Individual Social Responsibility with AFAD

Technology for Humanity competition organized by AFAD blends social responsibility awareness with technologic information and knowledge. It aims to prepare projects that will make contribution to social benefit and convenience. Innovations, technological developments and applicable projects can be carried out in any field that has an impact on human life.

Competition offers solution to issues such as education, health, transportation, environment, disaster management and similar areas in the technologically and economically disadvantaged areas. The main goal is to bring original technologies and national resources that will make life easier in these areas.

Largest Competition Area in TEKNOFEST 2019

Teams participate in the Technology for Humanity which is the competition with the biggest participation in festival have the opportunity to display their projects in a 3000 square meter area. Projects are competing in Education, Health, Environment, Disaster Management and Transportation categories. Finalists of the contest organized by AFAD will be announced on the last day of the festival.

Total Award is 36 Thousand Turkish Liras

2.400 teams have applied to Technology for Humanity Competition which was held in five different categories in two classification. 1.066 teams have passed the first round and 524 out of 1.066 have achieved to pass the second elimination. Along with 31 foreign teams, 555 teams have remained in the contest. Foreign teams are coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Niger, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan. Total award of the contest is 36 thousand Turkish liras and first runners of two categories will earn 10 thousand Turkish liras each.

Learn Through Experience at AFAD Earthquake Simulation Trucks

Visitors of AFAD booths, will experience lots of interactive and instructive activities. Visitors will also be able to experience the moment of the earthquake in the most realistic way to learn the correct behavior through in these two AFAD Mobile Earthquake Simulation Trucks. In simulation trucks, it will be possible to experience an earthquake measuring 7.2. 

Search and Rescue Dog Show  

AFAD K-9 Search and Rescue Dogs trained for years to perform special shows for the visitors of AFAD booth in TEKNOFEST 2019. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch these shows which are planned to be performed in every hour. AFAD booths also offer racetrack and climbing wall where child visitors can improve their physical skills while having fun. Moreover, AFAD search and rescue vehicles are also in display.

AFAD Volunteering System Activities  

There are variety of activities in the closed area of AFAD booths like it has in the open area. Visitors of AFAD booths in closed areas will have the opportunity to examine the interactive monitor of New Earthquake Hazard Map. They will see real-like tent city model and have their photos taken with AFAD Search and Rescue Experts in Uniforms. Moreover, they can get information about AFAD Volunteering System and participate in volunteering activities.

TEKNOFEST İstanbul Aerospace and Technology Festival which was held last year for the first time and achieves to become the second biggest aviation festival with more than 550 thousand visitors, will be host to various colorful shows and technology competitions.

TEKNOFEST supported by Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3) that aims to achieve national technological development in Turkey and to create a society that produces technology and supported by organizations that play a critical role in national technology development in aviation, space and technology is being held in Atatürk Airport between September 17-22.

33 technology competitions in primary school, secondary school, high school, undergraduate, graduate and master’s degree levels will be organized during the festival.
