The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Ahbap (Fellow) Association have signed a cooperation protocol foreseeing joint activities in cases of emergency and disasters.
Deputy Head of AFAD Hamza Taşdelen and Head of Ahbap Association Haluk Levent attended the protocol ceremony organized at the AFAD İstanbul Provincial Directorate.
Taşdelen said during his speech at the ceremony, “Actually, we already had intensive cooperation in the field in many disaster areas and now this cooperation becomes official.”
Taşdelen stressed that 2020 was a hard year for Turkey and it witnessed disasters in many regions in addition to the ongoing pandemic adding that:
“We had many supporters during this hard time. We were never alone and we would not be able to achieve all these if we were alone. The Ahbap Association was among our prior supporters. I personally witnessed this especially during the rescue activities in the aftermath of the İzmir earthquake. We were also together in Elazığ. I saw volunteers of the Ahbap Association there and they gave all kinds of support. I want to express my sincere gratitude to them.”
"We are honored to work with AFAD"
Meanwhile, Haluk Levent stated that his association is honored to work with AFAD and went on to say:
“We are an organization, a platform that is capable of gathering volunteers within a short period of time especially during the times of disasters. Due to this reason, it is an honor to work with AFAD. We were already in cooperation. We worked in Elazığ, Giresun Dereli and İzmir under the coordination of AFAD but now this cooperation becomes official.”
