2021 was declared as the Disaster Training Year in Turkey in order to develop disaster awareness in the society, decrease the risk of disasters and make a change in taking measure habits. Disaster training programs are considered as a strategic component of disaster risk and damage reduction efforts in the entire World.
The aim is to reach 51 million people in 2021 as a part of Turkey Disaster Training Year.
Activities within this framework are carried out in cooperation with public offices and institutions, chambers, unions, nongovernmental organizations, private sector companies and universities under the coordination of governors’ offices in provinces and local administrations in districts.
As of the beginning of 2021:
In addition of 14 ministries and 161 universities, AFAD has signed cooperation protocols with the Presidency of Religious Affairs, Scouting and Guiding Federation of Turkey, BOTAŞ, the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Turkish Pharmacists’ Association, ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, Halkbank ve Hayrat Humanitarian Aid Association, TESK, MEMUR-SEN, KAMU-SEN, TÜRK-İŞ, HAK-İŞ, TOBB, TZOB, TİSK and KESK.
A Disaster Training Programs Advisory Board comprising of the Head of AFAD, Turkish Red Crescent President, a representative from the Ministry of National Education and four academicians was founded in order to monitor and evaluate the activities.
