The Nuclear Regulatory Board (NDK) and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) have joined forces for Türkiye’s international radiation assessment and signed a cooperation protocol concerning the planning of the “Emergency Preparedness Review Mission” for the International Atomic Energy Agency. The protocol was signed by NDK Chairman Dr. Zafer DEMİRCAN and Head of AFAD Governor Yunus SEZER.

Preparation for the review of the International Expert Group

The protocol will provide the opportunity to make self-assessment and allow our revision before the assessment of the expert group of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

AFAD will coordinate related agencies and offices and their participation to the self-assessment process.

Head of AFAD Governor Yunus SEZER stated that the protocol will prepare our country to the assessment of the expert group of the International Atomic Energy Agency adding that, “I believe that the studies that will be carried out as a part of this protocol will contribute to the future of not only Türkiye but the entire world“.

Stressing the geopolitical importance of our country, Head of AFAD said, “The geopolitical position of Türkiye is also important due to radiation danger. War at the north of the Black Sea increases the possibility of damage to the nuclear power plants in the region. Due to this reason, we have no other chance than to improve our resilience against the radiation hazard.”
