The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Special Provincial Directorate and Special Provincial Directorate Companies collective labor agreement ceremony was held with the keynote speeches of Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin , Head of AFAD Yunus Sezer, Turkish Union of Road. Construction and Building Workers Chairman Ramazan Ağar and TÜHİS Secretary General Adnan Çiçek.
Expressing his wish that the collective labor agreement would be a blessing for mentioned offices, their workers and families, Soylu thanked AFAD, Special Provincial Directorate and Special Provincial Directorate Companies personnel for their devoted work during disasters.
Stressing that he always supported labor and believed providing fair pay to labor will increase productivity, Soylu said:
“Today, we have granted many rights as well as a 26 percent salary increase. We are very happy. It is very important for us to see our employees satisfied. They will do their jobs with happy faces. There is also 10 percent depreciation. Our colleagues deserve these.”
Soylu stated that as Turkey keeps growing and the Turkish state and people will get richer every day adding that, “I would like to remind you that your job is unique and it is not possible for others to do what you have accomplished. Turkey has stepped into a new era with the restructuring undertaken by AFAD.”
2021 Disaster Training Year Activities
In addition to the preparation of provincial risk reduction plans and risk maps, AFAD continues to increase its response capacity in an effort to manage disasters said Soylu and went on to say that, “We are conducting exercises, meetings, establish new logistics warehouses, procure personnel and materials and make first aid and evacuation plans. We include volunteers and nongovernmental organizations in this process. Number of our volunteers reached 360 thousand.”
Soylu pointed out that they support 57 projects as a part of national earthquake research program and said;
"Till now, a total of 26 million and 45 people attended training programs organized as a part of the Disaster Training Year activities. Your goal is to reach 51 million people by the end of this year. Until today, 11.5 million watched training videos. Moreover, a total of 730 informative meetings, 568 of them being in İstanbul were organized in 2020 and 162 in 2021 were held. There are 26 thousand and 323 disaster and emergency assembly areas in Turkey and the number of assembly areas reached 5 thousand and 600 in İstanbul. Before, there were 1.20 meter squares of assembly area per person and now this figure has risen to 3.6 square meter per person.”
Minister Soylu added that the number of disaster houses delivered to disaster victims by AFAD during 2019 and 2020 reached 51 thousand and 954.
